    Enables triglyceride lipase activity. Involved in several processes, including negative regulation of sequestering of triglyceride; triglyceride homeostasis; and triglyceride metabolic process. Located in lipid droplet. Is expressed in several structures, including early extended germ band embryo; ectoderm; ectoderm anlage; fat body; and gut section. Used to study obesity. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis 10; coronary artery disease; fatty liver disease (multiple); liver disease (multiple); and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Orthologous to several human genes including PNPLA2 (patatin like phospholipase domain containing 2); PNPLA3 (patatin like phospholipase domain containing 3); and PNPLA5 (patatin like phospholipase domain containing 5).
